Martin Brookes started this petition to Ms Dee Ford CBE (Bauer Media Group)

Saturday 1st April 1997 Rutland regained its status as an independent county, Rutland was a district of Leicestershire from 1974 until 1997, regaining its independent status only after a long-running campaign by local residents and communities.

The counties only radio station Rutland Radio started broadcasting on 13 December 1998 from Knights Yard, Gaol Street in Oakham. Rutland Radio was an Independent Local Radio station serving Rutland and Stamford, Lincolnshire broadcasting on 107.2FM in Rutland and 97.4FM across Stamford, and as part of the Lincs FM group it was permitted to remain independent.

Sadly the recent sale of Rutland Radio to Bauer Media will see Rutland Radio lose its Name and Independence.

Rutland Radio is part of Rutland's unique identity and it should be preserved.

Rutland Radio is often found out and about in the centre of the community supporting many community events throughout the year. Here in Oakham, Uppingham and Stamford.

Also providing up to date information about all that is going on in Rutland through its local news, travel and weather reports.

We ask Ms Dee Ford, Group Managing Director, Bauer Radio UK who was presented with her CBE medal from the Prince of Wales in an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace in February this year to consider keeping Rutland Radio's identity a large part of our small counties identity.

Perhaps when it is safe to do so, Ms Ford will pop out of her office based in Peterborough to visit Rutland and obtain a understanding of what is so special about Rutland.

When we listen to Rutland Radio's recent jingle, the message about social distancing it is genuine, personal and local. Something 'Greatest Hits Radio' radio could never achieve. If you agree and want to save 'Rutland Radio' for Rutland then please sign this petition and write to:
