Bathroom Equity at Western Sydney University

Bathroom Equity at Western Sydney University
Why this petition matters

At all of Western Sydney University's (WSU) Campuses, there is either a single gender neutral bathroom over the entire campus or none at all. Moreover, there are no sanitary bins in the men's toilets on WSU's campuses. This is a slap in the face to the LGBT+ community across these campuses, particularly the trans and GNC community for fear of harassment. This makes it extremely hard for the LGBT+ community on campus to go to the bathroom as they may not feel comfortable going into gendered bathrooms and non-binary students and staff are required to place themselves within a binary system in order to use the bathrooms and access appropriate facilities such as sanitary bins. Going into the accessible bathrooms is not ideal as it stops students with disabilities from accessing these bathrooms. This petition is to help the LGBT+ community at all Western Sydney Campuses feel comfortable about utilising the bathrooms.
In WSU's Sexuality and Gender Diversity Strategy, Michael Burgess (WSU's Chief Student Experience Officer) made promises to provide reasonable gender neutral facilities by the end of 2018. Four years later, these promises have not been met, which is discriminatory to the LGBT+ individuals and communities at WSU.
Western Sydney University needs to step up to be more accepting and accommodating to their LGBT+ students.
