I'm sure you didn't think you'd be hearing from me any time soon - and it is with a heavy heart that I'm reaching out to you all again.
A few weeks ago, you stood up, stepped forward and proclaimed #ISeeTara - and the MoJ listened.
Yet the prison service has continued with its highly transphobic policy of placing trans women in male prisons, and as a result another trans woman, Vicky Thompson, is now dead.
Dead.
I'm asking you to please help make a difference again by putting your name to a new petition which members of the trans community have set up to call for justice on a much wider scale: http://chn.ge/1QSpwCe
Andrew Selous, the Prisons Minister, has a terrible record when it comes to fighting for equality. As an article by Jane Fae on Politics.co.uk explains:
"Selous doesn't have the greatest record on equality issues – whether on trans or general LGBT rights. He opposed equal marriage at every turn. He voted for the retention of Section 28. And his opposition to transgender rights has been every bit as trenchant. According to those involved in 2004's Gender Recognition Act, he fought them every step of the way. In committee, he vexed about trans in changing rooms. In parliamentary debate, he suggested on more than one occasion that being transgender was some sort of lifestyle choice." - http://bit.ly/20o0hfe
The prison service has failed to take account of the existence of trans people and this needs to change before any more lives are needlessly and tragically lost.
So, please, take a moment to lend your voice to some of the most marginalised and vulnerable amongst us. Sign the new petition, and share it with everyone you know: http://chn.ge/1QSpwCe
Lots of love,
Ceri
