A few isolated events seem to have spurned a change within the administration from a "harm reduction" stance towards student alcohol use to a harsher, more strict policy with little room for learning responsible alcohol use. We firmly believe that this new policy creates an undue rift between the student, administration, and security.

While we are in no way advocating for irresponsible alcohol use, there is no advantage, social or otherwise, to punish students for drinking healthily and responsibly.

The only evident way to make our voice heard on this issue is to withold all Senior Gifts until a productive dialogue is started between the administration and student leaders, and fun, responsible alternatives are approved.

We the undersigned pledge to refuse to donate to Bates in any way until this issue has been approprately and adequately resolved.
