No podemos seguir mirando hacia otro lado.

My name is Sheila and I live in Seville. When I walk through the city centre and see horses pulling tourist carriages under the scorching sun, surrounded by cars, buses and noise, it breaks my heart. Recently I filmed one that looked visibly distressed as a bus passed right beside it. And I ask myself: do we really still need to use animals so tourists can get around our city?
In Seville, especially in summer, temperatures can be extremely high. The horses spend long hours on the streets, enduring the heat, the traffic, the noise and exhaustion. They are sensitive animals, and we shouldn’t force them to work for our entertainment.
There are other ways to enjoy the city without using horses. Málaga has already taken this step. In October 2025, the City Council ended its horse-drawn carriage tourist service and revoked the licences. Why can’t we do something similar in Seville? Electric carriages would allow these tourist rides to continue without animals, while also finding alternatives for the people who currently work in the sector.
What’s more, in March 2026 Seville began a process to review the bylaw regulating horse-drawn carriages, but the City Council’s plenary session rejected a proposal that would have let residents decide on the future of this tourist activity. We want that debate reopened and our voices heard. We can’t keep looking the other way.
That’s why we are calling on Seville City Council to amend the bylaw to gradually phase out this activity and replace it with animal-free alternatives, such as electric carriages. We also want the welfare and a dignified future of the horses currently used in these services to be guaranteed.
Seville can remain a beautiful city to visit without any horse having to pull a tourist carriage. Sign and share this petition to make it happen.
