Petition to Build a Public Basketball Fieldhouse in

Sherman, Texas

To the City of Sherman, Grayson County officials, local leaders, and community

stakeholders:

We, the undersigned, respectfully ask the City of Sherman and Grayson County to invest in a public

indoor basketball fieldhouse that will serve the residents of Texoma.

Sherman and the surrounding Grayson County area have experienced tremendous growth in

recent years. However, one area that has been overlooked is access to quality public basketball

facilities.

Currently, the only local indoor gym available for regular basketball is Family Fitness, which

requires a paid membership. This leaves many youth, families, students, and athletes without an

affordable or accessible place to practice, train, or simply enjoy the game.

Our community is filled with basketball talent. Grayson County has produced collegiate athletes,

professional players, and individuals who have competed overseas. Every year, more young

athletes are pursuing basketball, yet they have very few places to develop their skills.

We believe Sherman has both the space and the opportunity to build a modern public basketball

fieldhouse with at least eight full-size courts. Such a facility could: Provide open gym access for

the public. Give local youth and school teams a place to practice. Host leagues, tournaments, and

basketball camps. Attract visitors from across North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. Create

economic opportunities for local businesses through sports tourism. Promote health, fitness, and

positive activities for youth and adults alike. Sherman has invested in facilities for other sports,

including a professional baseball team, a professional soccer team, and the construction of

numerous pickleball courts. While those investments are appreciated, basketball—one of the most

popular sports in the country—deserves similar support.

A public basketball fieldhouse would benefit not only today's athletes but future generations. It

would strengthen our community, provide a safe place for young people to gather, and establish

Sherman as a regional destination for basketball events throughout Texoma.

We respectfully ask the City of Sherman and Grayson County to begin planning, funding,

and developing a public basketball fieldhouse with multiple courts that is accessible to the

community.

Together, we can create more opportunities for athletes, families, and the next generation of

basketball players in Texoma.
