Basis Mesa's dress code is sexist and unnecessary.

The female body is not a distraction. It is not dangerous. It does not take away from a safe learning environment.

Basis Mesa's dress code targets young girls and dehumanizes them to distractions. The issue is within the distracted student, not the clothes. Basis Mesa needs to set an example for its students and stop enforcing the belief that it is the girl's responsibility to adjust to situations that endanger their safety and self-worth. Female students attending Basis Mesa have the right to attend school knowing that their school administration doesn't perpetuate rape culture. By putting the blame onto female clothing, Basis Mesa overlooks the accountability that should be placed onto the students that are infatuated with the bodies of their peers and are unable to respect the boundaries of said peers. Clothing is not the issue; patriarchal mindsets are the issue.

 Get rid of the dress code Basis Mesa. Stop wasting time dress coding students when you could instead be enforcing a safe environment for all students. Stop perpetuating rape culture. Set an example. Do better Basis Mesa.
