Keep 24 Swan St in the community; STOP it being sold to developers

On Monday 6/9/21 Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council will place 24 Swan Street FOR SALE on the open market. They have approved their own pre-planning application to develop the site into 7 residential homes.
This will leave Kingsclere residents with only 2 public parking spaces. This car park serves (unofficially) as parking relief for many Kingsclere businesses, but especially for residents of Swan St who don’t have sufficient parking for their homes in one of the county’s largest conservation areas.
JLD, a highly successful dance school, has been a tenant here for 28 years. With over 200 students on the registers, it celebrates its 30th Anniversary in September 2021. Kingsclere Performing Arts College is an outstanding full time education provider, a 6th Form College in its 5th year, working in partnership with Newbury College. Neither business can operate from Albert Hall Studios alone, without the parking and studios at 24.
The Kingsclere Youth Club has been without a permanent home for over 16 years and rooms within 24 Swan St have been identified as excellent spaces to develop the youth club services in the village.
Plans are underway to form a new Charity to raise funds to purchase 24 Swan St, enabling all lease holders to continue trading and serving the community and bringing the Youth Club on site. The car park will also be managed by the new Charity and will provide both short term and resident parking to meet the local demand.
The Parish Council are in support of our plans and have nominated 24 Swan St as an ACV (Asset of Community Value).
Please sign our petition to support us in our quest to form our new Charity to buy, maintain and improve 24 Swan St so that local residents, businesses, young people and performing arts can continue to flourish in our beautiful village. STOP BASINGSTOKE & DEANE SELLING 24 SWAN ST TO DEVELOPERS and let any potential developers know loud and clear that they are not welcome here.
