Protect the Bluefin Tuna under the Endangered Species Act

The Issue

Our goal is to pressure the government to list the Bluefin Tuna as endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Official listing will help protect this amazing animal from extinction due to over-fishing.

Currently the Bluefin Tuna is not on this list but an official petition to list it has been submitted by the Center for Biological Diversity. Help show support for listing Bluefin Tuna as endangered by signing this petition.

We (the Giant Mutant Caterpillars) are a FIRST Lego League Robotics team in Beaverton, Oregon. We want to help protect the Bluefin Tuna, an apex predator, which helps sustain the biodiversity of our oceans. If the Bluefin Tuna become extinct, species they fed on would increase in population, which in turn would cause population decreases in the animals they feed on.This creates an unbalanced ecosystem in the oceans, leading to extinction of many species except the lowest levels of the ocean food web. ESA protection will also help prevent over-fishing, and help create the potential for a sustainable harvest for future generations.

We have done a lot of research and found out that Bluefin Tuna do qualify to be on the Endangered Species Act. These animals are declining rapidly so we must act fast!

Thank you for considering the future of our oceans.
