The early hatchery run of steelhead on the Cowlitz river has been eliminated because of concerns over out of basin stock interfering with wild spawning steelhead. All the studies that have been done on this are incomplete. Eliminating this run of fish has taken a catastrophic toll on the local economy. When the early run was healthy and fish began returning in November, thousands of anglers from all over the state would come to Lewis county. This fishery generated a lot of much needed revenue for local businesses. With this early run eliminated the anglers don't come which means the local economy loses all the business the anglers bring with them. Restore the early run immediately. The local economy depends on it and the hardworking sport fisherman of Washington state deserve it.
