New Jimmie Davis Bridge Construction

The Issue

The Jimmie Davis Bridge is one of the most highly trafficked links between Shreveport and Bossier City. Over 25,000 cars drive over the bridge each day. The bridge has lived well past its expected life span of 50 years. Built in 1968, the Jimmie Davis Bridge is 52 years old this year. Legislators like Sen. Barrow Peacock, Rep. Dodie Horton and Rep. Thomas Pressley continue to neglect the crumbling, concrete and steel structure in the southern part of Bossier and Caddo parish.

In 2019 Sen. Peacock advocated that $100 million be moved from the Jimmie Davis Bridge project to the I-49 North Inner-City Connector project. "I don’t believe we have to pick one or the other. I think we can do both," Peacock said in an interview with BossierNow. The senator believes that this move will bring more federal funding to the Jimmie Davis Bridge Project, but a year later no such thing has happened. This year Rep. Cedric Glover introduced a bill to the Louisiana House of Representatives to put the $100 million back into the Jimmie Davis Bridge project, but the bill is stuck in the Committee on Appropriations.

It is time for the citizens of Bossier and Caddo parish to speak up. The time is now, to show the representatives and senators that represent us in Baton Rouge that the Jimmie Davis Bridge is a priority for our community, and our community's economic development.
