Save the green fields Lee Lane Royston Barnsley

The Issue

Barnsley Council  have now released the draft Master Plan Royston Framework for further development on Lee Lane in Barnsley. Dated the 3rd June the consultation will run till 15th July 2020.

Our beautiful fields are the home to many animals, birds and trees. Bats, hedgehogs, foxes, badgers, nesting birds, owls, rabbits, pheasants and more. Beautiful mature trees and historic hedgerows.  It is proposed that 994 houses will be built on this land.

It is hard to imagine what this will do to the natural landscape and nearby nature reserve. It is apparently not designated green belt however it is green! Beautiful green fields and it cannot be disputed that it is home to nature.

The benefits of green spaces to mental health and well-being are proven. Getting out into nature is the best thing we can do to improve our mental health. Once they are gone these green spaces and nature homes are lost forever. During lockdown these fields have been a lifeline to so many.

If you would like to oppose this development peacefully please sign this petition and feel free to share it.

Please also complete the online consultation which is running till the 15th July 2020 or write a letter to Barnsley Council to state your feelings about the development and how it will effect you. Here is the link:

I would like us to safely and peacefully have our voice heard,  as we love our village Royston Barnsley and the green space that surrounds it.

Thankyou for reading this, and please share with anyone else you feel may wish to sign stay safe.
