In the past few days, the student editors of the W’SUP have been made aware that our university, and the Vice-Chancellor, Barney Glover have chosen to remove the single part time staff member that supports the W’SUP.

Since the student newspaper began, student editors have had the support of a Publications Officer. This staff member provides crucial support to us in our work, and to the paper, by managing print services and distribution, gaining advertising, organising meetings, and acting as our point of contact with the university. The Publications Officer is also a great source of continuity as old editors retire and new ones are elected in for each year.

The student editors are just that, students. While we love to run W’SUP, this will impact on our ability to have the paper running as smoothly as it we’d like and impact on its capacity to act as a voice for students.

Sydney University’s Honi Soit has 2 Staff Publications Officers, and 6 days a week support

Western Sydney University now has none. We are now left to fend for ourselves, alone and severely disadvantaged when compared to other universities.
