Dear Friends and Supporters, Another update on the waste. There is an answer from the GLA and the Mayor of London on the Abbotts waste depot where they are commenting pretty much that the planning application is incomplete and changes, number and tables need to be presented to the GLA before making approving in principle. - Not bad news there but we still have to fight. You can find the document in the Council's website (GLA_STAGE_1 document) but I can also forward to you if you email us at barnetraad@gmail.com The council has submitted updated documents and extended the deadline for objections to 24th September so please put yours in if you have not yet. The new documents, along with those submitted with the original planning application, can be viewed on Barnet Council’s planning website using the reference number 15/04005/FUL. Simply visit: https://publicaccess.barnet.gov.uk/online-applications/ and type this number into the search box. There are also paper copies of the documents available to view at the Planning Department reception at Barnet House in Whetstone.( WHICH GREATLY INCONVENIENCES THE LOCAL RESIDENTS AND DOES NOT ALLOW EASY ACCESS GIVEN THERE ARE COUNCIL OFFICES IN NORTH LONDON BUSINESS CENTRE) Besides all the points in the planning application that need clarification there have been identified 3 protected bat species and 3 protected reptile species in Abbots Depot- reports in the planning application in the LBB website. Via our posts in change.org, facebook and twitter we have asked for any of you that has the expertise to help in any aspect of the planning application to come forward and join our small but dedicated and hard working team and/or donate. Some of you have donated to our pot and that has helped RAAD print our leaflets that most of you have also found at your doorstep as well as leave us with GBP200 aprox. We have decided that now is the time to seek legal advice. Below is an email from the solicitor that is wiling to help and has experience in matters like ours with hourly rates and initial cost for consultation. The way we see it we have two options: fight the waste or live with it and it is a decision we all have to take together and of course us and our families live with the consequences. We will need between GBP 30-50 per household and that is a small price to pay considering that Patricia Mc Grady, our fellow resident of our area (Coppies Grove) and the one who started this petition is already having trouble selling her property because of the future waste situation. So, please make a decision whether you want to fight the waste or live with it and let us know within the next couple of weeks. -Join our Twitter : @NOwastedeptN11 -Join our facebook page on https://www.facebook.com/groups/1409433536029416 -We have also set up a fund in order to pay for all we will need. I have had a very brief look through these. This is certainly something we could provide assistance on. As I mentioned I am aware of the Pinkham Way site and the issues around North London Waste. So you are aware my former firm (I left just over two years ago) acted for NLWA. I no longer do any work for NLWA and Harrison Grant does not act for them. Although there is no conflict in us acting for you I do feel you need to be aware of this. If you wish us to be involved we could assist in commenting on your draft representations to the Council and planning committee, provide briefings for ‘friendly’ councillors and present your representations to the planning committee. We can provide advice in relation to any ‘call in’ by the Mayor of London. Depending on the decision we could advise you as to the way forward and the possible consequences of the decision. Our exact involvement would depends on various issues. Not least the timescale involved, likely date of the planning committee and the budget the local residents have for legal assistance. Our charge is £250 per hour. We would be willing to reduce this to £175 per hour + VAT for this matter. Initially I would suggest we meet with you (and a small number of other residents – if appropriate), go through the current position and likely grounds of objections. After the meeting we would review any grounds of objections drafted by you for submission to the Council, prepare a draft summary of points to address the council for checking by the residents, attend the council meeting and present your case and meet with you after the decision to discuss the way forward. We would be willing to be this for a capped fee of £1,250.00 + VAT (£1,500). If we spent less time than we anticipate or there are aspects you do not want us to carry out and you would do yourselves then we would reduce our fee accordingly.
