HENDON LIBRARY NEWS
One of the Planning Applications that landed in Hendon this week is for the new (alleged) "state-of-the-art" Hendon Library.
In 2017, we had 1800 sqm of library in our beautiful 100-year-old building.
Now Barnet's FLAGSHIP LIBRARY is going to be an awkward-shaped 675 sqm under a 5 storey residential block, sharing floor area with a Safer Neighbourhood Team, bike storage, plant machinery & refuse area.
With the promised makerspacer, children's section, spacious comfy areas, computers and archives ... will there be any room for books?
As for our current iconic library building - which is slated to become Middlesex University Business School ...
... despite what Cllr Thomas, Leader of Barnet Council, said on 20 July 2021 at the Policy & Resources Committee meeting, significant parts of Hendon Library WILL be demolished against the advice of Historic England (19.07.21), which warned of harm to the building, including the listed roof.
More info on all of this soon.
