Do not close the Bay Terrace Barnes and Noble retail location!

This petition had 3,231 supporters

The last standing Queens Barnes & Noble location in The Bay Terrace Shopping Center at 23-80 Bell Boulevard is reported to close. Watching family locations shut down in Queens is unsettling. Barnes & Noble has operated as the largest book selection center in Queens for more than fifteen years, and its closure in this area would cause great inconvenience to families, professionals, and book lovers who regard this as their "go-to" bookstore. At the request of the Bayside, Flushing, and Queens communities, the Bay Terrace Barnes & Noble lease must be renewed to preserve this educational center.

It is an atrocity to rid the largest borough of New York City its most popular bookstore. Queens's 2 million residents will no longer be able to partake in browsing and purchasing novels at their leisure. Bookstores will have been a thing of the past. Children will never know what it is like to go to their favorite bookstore and find the perfect novel. Students and professionals will find great inconvenience in being forced to order instruction and training manuals for important exams (such as the SAT) online, when they could have stopped by Barnes & Noble in a flash. Book lovers in Queens will sorely miss the days when they pre-ordered books at their local Barnes & Noble and delighted in the day they arrived. Those with families insist that actual books are better learning tools for children. Future generations will suffer from a lack of standing educational centers apart from school, like bookstores.

The Queens community is in disbelief that a 25,000-square-foot bookstore so important to the community with activities for students and children, incredible book selection, and refreshing Starbucks corner could ever shut down. To highlight how much the Queens community cares about this issue, notice the exponential growth of the Facebook page, "Keep Barnes & Noble Open in Queens." On this page, community members express their emotions of disbelief and insist that Barnes & Noble stay put in the Bay Terrace Shopping Center and in Queens.

As this would be the last Barnes & Noble in Queens, there is great urgency in this particular petition to save the bookstore at 23-80 Bell Boulevard. The signers of this petition demand that Cord Meyer Development work with Barnes & Noble until they arrange a fair leasing deal to allow it to stay for both current and future generations. The Bay Terrace Shopping Center is already home to many wonderful fashion and food retail stores. Why eliminate the most convenient, enriching core of The Bay Terrace mall?
