Having spoken to the Department of Agriculture, we have uncovered some saddening yet vital information. The new strain of Calicivirus (RHDV2) works fast, roughly 24-36 hours is all it takes for the infected rabbit to die. It is everywhere in the Perth area, with it being detected as far as Gingin up North. They (and us at the clinic) have had a lot of cases recently and they have said the best disinfectant to use around the house (cages, water bowls, etc.) would be bleach. However apart from quarantining new rabbits introduced to existing rabbit households, there is nothing that can be done, as the Government has still not yet released a vaccination despite detection of cases over East almost a year ago.
