Barkour for Bath
The Issue
The culture of dog ownership has changed. Dog’s no longer have owners, they have families that are making decisions on where to live, work, and play based on dog-welcoming infrastructure and policies.
In Bath alone, there are 432 licensed dogs. Bath has an estimated population of 8,338. The City of Bath can make a statement about its commitment to offering amenities that attract a richly diverse and active population with Barkour. Barkour blends the words “bark” and “parkour”. Barkour or dog parkour is a fairly new sport that fuses elements of human parkour with dog agility. Parkour involves moving rapidly through an area, typically in an urban environment, running, jumping, and climbing around, through, on, under, or across obstacles). Barkour could enhance socialization and community, exercise, responsible dog ownership, and Bath's economy through events and patronship of local businesses.
Barkour is a highly desired project by Bath residents with the potential to be fully funded through the efforts of two local Girl Scouts and minimal impact to the city budget. We are fully committed and open to working with the Bath City Council on making any revisions or changes to make Barkour a win for the Bath community.
