Stop closure of Barclays Bank in Crofton Park

We the residents and traders in Crofton Park, Honor Oak Park and Brockley urge Barclays Bank to reconsider their decision to close the Crofton Park Barclay branch in July 2018.

We request that Barclays reconsiders the impact that the closure will have on our area, leaving it without any bank. Barclays have a social responsibility towards the community, individuals and businesses who would find it very difficult to conduct their affairs through the local post offices, online or by travelling to other banks in Lewisham or Catford.

Local post offices can only offer limited facilities and often have very long queues. The branch is used by our residents, who include elderly and vulnerable people who do not have access or an understanding of online banking. These customers need personal service and will find travelling to other branches problematic.

The area also has many small independent shops and businesses needing access to banking facilities.

Many residents have commented that they would like the convenience of a local bank but cannot visit the branch because of the restricted opening hours 10-3 on weekdays. A trial period with the bank opening later and at weekends might considerably increase local usage.

We would ask Barclays to reconsider their decision and to recognise the effect it will have as this is the only bank left in a large geographical area.

This petition is supported by Crofton Park Labour councillors Cllr Pauline Morrison, Cllr Chris Barnham, and Labour councillor candidate Tauseef Anwar.
