False Charges and Unfair Treatment at Ellis Unit in Huntsville Texas.

The Issue

My son, Alvin Givens II has been an inmate at the Ellis Unit in Huntsville, Texas for 6 years, and he has been charged with three major cases built around false pretenses since he has been there. Each time that he has been up for parole release, or advancement to a higher level in this prison, days before it is to happen, he is falsely accused of a crime that he did not commit. He has been denied parole twice because of false and unfounded charges being brought against him each time, setting him back years. After he reported the correctional officers harassments, he has been targeted for unfair treatment, threats, and erroneous charges. On October 1st, 2018, a week before he was to move to a ranking of S2, he was charged with a threat and given a major case. He had put in a request to be moved to another prison, a week prior to this case, because he told me that the harassment that he was receiving was getting worse. He was happy about being able to move to another level, and now once again, he has been set back, lowering his chances for release. He hasn't been in any trouble prior to this recent case. Each time he has filed appeals, he has lost the cases, with his voice not being heard because he is a prisoner, he holds no weight of being believed. We have written letters to the Ombudsman about the his situation, high government officials, the wardens, and whoever we thought could help, with each time, nothing has been done to fairly investigate the circumstances surrounding any of the cases that he has been charged with since he has been there. Alvin has been in prison for 19 and half years, being in 6 different prisons, and at the Ellis Unit, he has had the most problems with being targeted by prison guards. This has been stressful to myself and my family, as we have paid attorneys to look into his original case that he is in prison for. He was unknowingly charged with a crime while he was already in custody, and it would have been impossible for him to commit it. His case has been tied up in appeals, judges have reviewed his original case, and are in knowing that there was no way the he could have committed a crime at the end of July while he was already is prison in May. They called it an error, nevertheless, he is still doing time for a crime that someone else committed. He has evolved into a man of strong character, standing up for the rights of others, while being a helper to other prisoners. He spends his time reading, mentoring other inmates who are troubled, and works on his assignments without complaining. He has a good heart, he has completed high school in prison receiving the Valedictorian award, and various other awards, at other prisons in the Texas prison system. Please sign this petition, in support of us getting a fair chance and true justice for my son, Alvin.
