Dear President Obama,

Thanks to the massive effort directed toward Congressional home district and DC offices, we've blocked Monsanto and Big Food from attaching a GMO labeling-preemption rider to the year-end federal budget deal.  We have prevailed against the DARK (Deny Americans the Right to Know) Act, and we know this is a huge victory to celebrate.  We also know this fight may not be over.

Giant food, chemical and biotech corporations and their millions of dollars; Monsanto — will come back in January to try to preempt state laws again.  We absolutely must win the right to know if our food contains GMOs, and with the continued efforts of this petition, we are letting you know our movement is bigger than ever.  We will continue to ask for your support until our right to know is completely intact.

Americans overwhelmingly favor labeling of foods that contain genetically modified organisms.  We join our efforts, along with other organizations, such as Farm Aid, Just Label It, Natural Society, Organic Consumers Association and countless others, with a message for transparency of our food system! 

Ronnie Cummins, National Director for Organic Consumers Association and Organic Consumers Fund has stated, “We have our sights on building a new global food and farming system.  We must bring down the degenerative, Monsanto-style agriculture system and replace it with one that regenerates — soil, health, economies, climate stability.”  We agree!

WE ask that you and Congress stand by our side.   Along with the continued efforts that will include hundreds of meetings, protests, and phone banks in 2016, as we will not lose sight of our goals, this petition’s signees are asking you to:

USE YOUR INFLUENCE IN SHAPING THIS LEGISLATION TO PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE TO KNOW WHAT'S IN OUR FOOD!

The original letter I wrote that started this petition is a reminder for you to keep your promise.  Preserving states’ rights to label GMOs leaves me optimistic, but you must understand WE, the undersigned OPPOSE any policy riders that would deny our right to know if our food has been genetically modified.

Regeneration is the new frontier of the organic food and farming movement….One of healing, renewal, and hope.  We must not let corporations like Monsanto define our future!

Dear President Obama,

I’m a 58-year-old grandmother of an autistic child.  I voted for you and I'm now asking you, along with the other people whose signatures appear on this petition, to keep the promise you made in 2007 for what should be very obvious reasons to you and to the Senate.  This issue not only affects 'the people' now, but the children and grandchildren of our future.

PLEASE KEEP YOUR PROMISE TO LABEL GMOs!

As you can see in the attached video, you declared that you would label genetically modified foods upon becoming President.  In your own words, you acknowledge that we have the 'right to know' what we're eating.  Officially titled the 'Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act' and fittingly nicknamed the 'DARK Act,' this is a bill that WE do not support. The fate of the bill sits with both the Senate and with you, President Obama.  In the event that the Senate passes the DARK Act (which may very well happen considering the breakdown of politicians who are receiving massive funding towards such ends), it's all up to you, President Obama to VETO the bill.

The DARK Act is perhaps the largest attack on what Anthony Gucciardi of Natural Society calls 'food intelligence' in recent history, in that it clearly reduces our ability to make informed decisions about what we are eating.  

Ultimately, it also shows that Monsanto and processed food manufacturers are extremely desperate in their attempts to silence opposition towards their GMO-loaded products. Since the World Health Organization declared that Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide is in fact causing cancer in humans, even many GMO proponents have begun doubting the safety of Monsanto’s products. Quite frankly, they have lost the war for public approval (and the DARK Act is the response by their lobbying groups).  Don't let multi-national corporations ban my/our right to know what we're eating!
