Like many, I thought heroin was a ghetto drug & I learned early on, it was the ONE drug you NEVER want to try. But little did I think, heroin would flood my upper middle class neighborhood. Being a 60-70's baby boomer, I wasn't freaked out when I heard my daughters were trying marijuana in Middle School & High School. I learned later, that the pot of today, is NOTHING like the pot we tried back then. I also never expected one of my daughter's High School friends to be a heroin dealer. It's been 4 plus years now, I've been fighting this demon trying to kill my daughters, now 22 & 23. As a single mom, with no other family, it has become my sole existence. And for every step forward, we fall 4 steps back. Heroin is NOT just a stupid choice made by innocent young people. It has become an accepted disease. Many if not most addicts fall under the diagnosis of "dual diagnosis", meaning there are under-lying psychiatric/mental issues, that are probably the cause and addiction just a by product. What a by product! Heroin destroys every aspect of a person's life and the family that loves that person. I may, like so many others, bury my daughters before I pass. Don't just believe me; study the facts, then sign the petition asking those in power to do something. What?
