Dear Mr. President,

 In 2007 you promised to put a label on all Genetically Engineered foods ...

 

                            Campaign speech in 2007:

 "Americans should know where their food comes from. We'll let folks know whether their food has been genetically modified, because Americans should know what they're buying."

On July 23rd 2015, Our Members of Congress passed a bill called H.R. 1599: Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015. Which is a mockery of what it really is, its the exact opposite of safe and accurate food labeling. Whatever your views on GMOs, I believe they should be properly labeled so we have a choice to decide whether we want to eat it or not.

Even though Members of Congress passed the bill we know that is has to ultimately go through you and you have the power to veto it.

This bill prevents all states from enacting their own GMO labeling laws, ever. It also strips states like Vermont which already passed GMO labeling, their right from doing so. 

The majority of Americans, (studies show up to 90%) would not feed GMO's to their families.

What are GMO's ?

GMOs (or “genetically modified organisms”) are living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering.This relatively new science creates unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacteria and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods.

In other words they take the genes of one species and force it into the genes of another species. They mix plants, animals and even bacteria that were never meant to be mixed, and we are eating it.  

Every single independent study proves GMOs cause infertility issues, inflammation in the body, holes in the GI tract, tumors, organ system failure, cancer...

It may look and smell the same, but it is not the same. Our body thinks of it as a foreign substance. Since 1996 when GMOs were introduced to our diet disease has since skyrocketed. It is no coincidence cancer and other diseases in America has more than doubled.

 Health Risks.

Studies prove Genetically Engineered Foods pose serious health risks, especially in children.

Scientists used young adolescent rats in their GM feeding studies. The rats showed significant health damage after only 10 days, including damaged immune systems and digestive function, smaller brains, livers, and testicles, partial atrophy of the liver, and potentially pre-cancerous cell growth in the intestines.

In 2009, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) stated that, "Several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with genetically modified food," including infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, faulty insulin regulation, and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system. The AAEM have asked all doctors to advise their patients to eat a non GMO diet.

The primary ingredient in GMO's is glyphosate, was labeled as being probably carcinogenic to humans by the World Health Organization. Scientists also concluded that glyphosate is "genotoxic," meaning that it damages DNA and there are actually no safe levels of exposure.

In more than 60 countries around the world GMO's have been outright BANNED. In the U.S., the government has approved GMOs based on studies conducted by the same corporations that created them and profit from their sale.

How common are GMOs?

In the U.S., GMOs are in as much as 80% of conventional processed food. Over 90% of corn is genetically modified. GMO Soybeans make up to 93-95% of the Soybean supply in 2010, I imagine its more now.

What are the impacts of GMOs on the environment?

Over 80% of all GMOs grown worldwide are engineered for herbicide tolerance. As a result, use of toxic herbicides like Roundup has increased 15 times since GMOs were introduced. GMO crops are also responsible for the emergence of “super weeds” and “super bugs:’ which can only be killed with ever more toxic poisons

The long-term impacts of GMOs are unknown, and once released into the environment these novel organisms cannot be recalled.

There is nothing about GMO's that benefit the consumer. No better taste, no better nutritional value, no lower price, NOTHING. So why have it? 95% of all the genetic modifications are done in order to allow the plants to survive the chemicals being sprayed on them and to allow the animals to survive the drugs being put into them.  It's sole purpose, sole appeal is to be able to withstand all of the toxic chemicals being poured onto them. And who are the herbicide companies that do this? Monsanto. Du Pont. Dow. Syngenta. Bayer. Monsanto is the same company that makes GMO food! What a shocker.

Should this not be highly suspicious?

 Bug eats the plant and its genes change. Animal eats the plant, and its gene change. I assume it would be the same for us.

Organic farmers have to go through such strict requirements as a result there are fewer and fewer of them. The laws in the bills are so strict, so arbitrary, that if you are a small organic farmer you can't meet their requirements for safety as a result you'll go out of business.

Monsanto claims its not different, but all evidence points to otherwise. It is different. It is modified. And it is in many ways a threat to the health of the people of our nation.

 

- This is why I'm calling on President Barrack Obama to please veto this bill. Americans have the right to know where our food comes from and GMOs should be properly labeled.
