Clemency for Eva Atencio Palma and Edward Atencio
CLEMENCY FOR EDWARD ATENCIO Y EVA ATENCIO PALMA BOTH SERVING LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE.
My name is Estrella Palma . I am the daughter of Eva Atencio Palma #21868-0551 and Edward Atencio #21867-051, who have currently served over 13 years of a sentence of life without parole for a nonviolent drug crime.
I am one of three kids that have been raised without a parent for over a decade. I was only 5 years old when my parents were arrested,
My parents understand they did wrong. And they were more than willing to plead guilty to a charge of selling drugs. But because my parents did not want to cooperate with the Government and become informants they were forced to go to trial and received Life Without Parole.
It is hard for me to understand that my parents received a sentence, that basically amounts to the death penalty, not because of the crime they committed, but because they did not cooperate.
Since my parents have been in prison they have been model inmates, bettering their lives and other inmates with them. Despite the fact that they may never be released again, they have continued to stay positive and not give up.
U.S. District Judge Bruce D. Black stated that it did not make sense that my mother receive a sentence of life without parole for a non-violent drug crime, while that same week he could only sentence a man who killed his mom to no more than 6 years.
President Obama has granted clemency to nearly 600 nonviolent drug offenders, many of whom have had petitions on Change.org---so your signatures help.
I am so afraid that if President Obama does not let my parents out, they will never get out.
Please sign and help my brother, sister and me get our parents back.
