The Issue

Every year, during Diwali, Guy Fawkes Night, and New Year's Eve, we face the same challenges and fears. I have witnessed so many horror stories of animals getting hit by cars and animals going missing. It breaks my heart to know that our innocent animals suffer the consequences of our celebrations.

Imagine the terror in their eyes, the panic in their hearts, as fireworks explode across the skies. Animals, both wild and domesticated, get disoriented by the loud noises and sudden flashes of light. In their frenzy to escape, they often run into perilous situations, getting caught in fences or, worse, being hit by speeding cars.

The aftermath is devastating. Each year, countless animals are left injured, lost, or worse. Shelters like SPCA are overwhelmed with missing animals sitting in kennels, waiting desperately to be reunited with their families, many never to be claimed.

It's a distressing cycle that repeats year after year, and it is high time we, the citizens of South Africa, take a stand to end this needless suffering. By banning the use of fireworks, we can prevent this heartbreaking reality from continuing.

Let's replace fireworks with safer, animal-friendly alternatives that can still bring joy to our celebrations without causing harm. Light shows, laser displays, or silent fireworks are all fantastic options that ensure festivities remain vibrant and enjoyable for everyone.

Please join me in urging our government and city councils to take immediate action to implement a ban on fireworks. Protecting our animals is a responsibility we all share, and together, we can make a difference.

Help bring about this change for the better. Sign the petition and be part of a compassionate future that respects all creatures on this earth.
