This upcoming school year manatee school for the arts is implementing locking phone pouches for high school students that are used from the beginning of the day to lunch then from after lunch to the end of the school day. While the phone pouches are a good way to help us students focus in  class, cell phones are also part of modern life and with the rise in school violence phone should not be locked up where students are unable to use them in the event of an emergency. The bill they are referencing HB 1105 "Bell to bell ban" only refers to k-8 students not high schoolers. Manatee school for the arts already has had a cell phone ban in place where cell phones had to be placed in numbered pouches in the front of each class room at the start of class but locked pouches are too far. If a student is having a medical emergency and nobody has access to a phone their will be severe consequences. With the rise in gun violence and school violence every student should have the right to call parents and local laws enforcement in the state of an emergency. All students and parents  have the constitutional right to sign this and petition and petition themselves cause this is a change that needs to be made.
