Banning i-Ready from Warren County Schools

Banning i-Ready from Warren County Schools

The Issue

As a deeply concerned citizen of Warren County, I am highly disturbed by the increasing amount of screen time us children are exposed to in schools due to i-Ready, an online program designed to provide personalized instruction. While technology can certainly be beneficial to a certain extent, it is widely acknowledged that excessive screen time can have numerous negative effects on our children's mental and physical health. Research suggests that children who spend more than two hours a day on screen-based entertainment are at a higher risk for health issues such as obesity, inactivity, and lower school performance (American Academy of Pediatrics).

i-Ready, employed in schools all over Warren County, is in many ways aggravating this issue. Although it may seem to customize learning, it is promoting a computer-based learning method that leaves little room for teacher-student interaction, creativity, physical activity and much-needed social skills.

The purpose of this petition is to highlight these concerns and urge the Warren County School Board to reconsider the use of i-Ready and find more balanced, healthier learning methods. We believe there exists numerous educational alternatives that respect the developmental needs of our children without over-relying on computer-based learning programs.

It's time to prioritize our children’s physical, social and emotional health above all else. Please sign this petition to remove i-Ready from Warren County Schools.
