I've been reaching out to various city councils across the country, and am pleased to report that Whitehorse City Council unanimously voted to support the motion recently passed by Montreal City Council! This called for more Canadian women on our money, on bank notes as well as coins. Thanks to councillor Betty Irwin in Whitehorse for working on this - and to Whitehorse City Council for taking action! Councillor Donna Reid is now preparing a motion to the Cambridge City Council, calling for Canadian women on bank notes. As a result of her plans, I was asked to do another radio interview about the importance of gender equality on bank notes. On Monday, September 14 I was interviewed on The Eric Drozd Show, for a radio station from Kitchener. I'm looking forward to hearing how things go in Cambridge, and hoping that other municipalities will encourage the Bank of Canada to finally act - and ensure gender equality on our bills. I believe that featuring even one Canadian woman on the face of our notes would be a good first step, though of course I love the Australian bank notes that celebrate an equal number of Australian men and women - on four out of five notes! Will your city council follow the great example set by Montreal and now Whitehorse, and call on Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz to honour Canadian women on our bills?
