In Malaysia as it stands currently, health insurance policies do not cover claims for breast reconstruction and prosthesis / surgical bras following a mastectomy to treat breast cancer, in spite of it being the most common cancer among Malaysian women. These procedures are still considered ‘Cosmetic’.

This is a petition to Actuaries Division of Bank Negara Malaysia and Life Insurance Association of Malaysia, calling for a change in policy whereby, reconstruction of the breast, prosthesis and related clinical and non-clinical procedures to be deemed as an essential part of Breast Cancer Management and the insurance policy should be revisited to cover the above, which will also reduce the financial burden for Malaysian women undergoing treatment for Breast Cancer.
