The Love Live! franchise, having gained massive popularity through its TV anime, games, music, and other media, has spread far beyond the reaches of Japan. This has been proven many times through the high success rates of the mobile rhythm game, Love Live!: School Idol Festival, multiple screenings of Love Live!: The School Idol Movie selling out overseas, and many flourishing communities in multiple languages centered around the franchise. Today, there are numerous song and dance cover groups solely dedicated to performing Love Live! songs all over the world and gatherings organized in many different countries, by many different people, all in the name of Love Live!.

The Love Live! franchise’s rich history, dating back to August 2010, also includes various live concert performances by μ's. These “one-man live” concerts are performed by the voice actresses of the animated idol units, μ's and now Aqours, as their real-life counterparts. Over time, these lives have grown in both size and spectacle, becoming one of the capstone events of the franchise each year. However, due to limited ticket availability and venue sizes, the lives have been inaccessible to most people; not only to many in Japan, but even more outside of the country as well.

To mediate this, live viewings in theaters have been held to cater to those who cannot attend the live concert in the venue space due to size and number of seats. Since the 5th Live “one-man live” concerts for μ's (μ's Go→Go! LoveLive! 2015 ~Dream Sensation!~) that were held on January 31st and February 1st of last year (2015), the live viewings have also expanded out to being held in various Asian countries as well. [1] Even more recently on January 30th, the first overseas fan meeting “LoveLive! μ's Fan Meeting in Shanghai & Taipei ~Talk&Live~” occured in Shanghai, was met with extremely high success, and even had live viewings of its own. [2]

Love Live!-related and Project Love Live!-sanctioned events are just now on the rise outside of Asian countries. In about a week’s time, Love Live!: School Idol Festival will have its first offline event, “SIF Score Challenge 2016” at this year’s Anime Boston (2016) held in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States of America.[3]  Australia has also successfully petitioned for live viewings of “μ's Final LoveLive!〜μ'sic Forever♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♪〜” and will be receiving them on March 31st and April 1st in Sydney.[4] However, despite these victories and events that are anything but small, live viewings and live events still rarely occur in countries outside of Asia, but many others around the world have been hoping to get the chance to see Love Live! live concerts as they are happening.
