The UK and NZ both have youth vaping epidemics, their lead clinicians clearly state deep concerns about vaping, and neither government is listening, both having weak vaping regulations. (1,2)
The UK Registrar for the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health says his UK colleagues are 'really worried' about young people vaping, that vapes are 'an effective entry into nicotine addiction and smoking' and the situation is a 'public health disaster'. (1)
'Big tobacco' and the UK and NZ governments talk a lot about vape products having lower levels of some toxicants and about changing from smoking to vaping, but provide negligible information to the public on the health risks of vaping and its toxicants. (1,3,4)
It is very disturbing when the Ministry of Health shares with 'big tobacco' culpability in understating to the public the risks of a product it strongly supports, from which it profits and to which over 1 in 5 of New Zealand youth are addicted (5).
Whoever governs New Zealand after today must tell the public of the risks of vaping and put vapes into pharmacies where they belong!
