Ban using dogs in laboratory testing

Ban using dogs in laboratory testing
The Issue
Dogs are not test subjects. They are companions, protectors, and family members. Every year, thousands of dogs are bred specifically for laboratory research. Many spend their entire lives confined to cages, subjected to procedures that cause pain, fear, and distress—without ever knowing what it feels like to be loved in a home. These animals are not strays. They are intentionally bred to be docile and trusting, which makes their suffering even more heartbreaking. Their loyalty is met with confinement. Their trust is met with harm. While scientific advancement is important, it should never come at the expense of unnecessary cruelty—especially when modern, humane alternatives exist. Advances in technology now allow for more ethical, accurate, and cost-effective testing methods, including: • In-vitro testing (cell-based research) • Computer modeling • Human tissue simulation • Advanced non-animal research methods Yet despite these advancements, outdated practices continue. We are calling for immediate legislative action to: • Ban the use of dogs in non-essential research and testing • Phase out current programs that rely on dog testing • Increase funding and incentives for humane, alternative research methods • Strengthen transparency and reporting requirements for all animal testing facilities • Ensure the safe release and adoption of dogs currently held in laboratories whenever possible Dogs have stood by humans for thousands of years—serving as companions, protectors, and even lifesavers. It is time we stand up for them. They cannot speak for themselves. We must be their voice. Sign this petition to help end the unnecessary use of dogs in research and push for compassionate, modern science.
