The Issue

I have personally witnessed countless cases where dogs are being neglected by young and irresponsible owners and breeders. It deeply saddens me to see dogs going without basic necessities, like water, and my heart aches for these innocent animals. It is time to take action to protect our furry companions.

The issue of unlicensed dog breeding and ownership is a growing concern. Irresponsible breeders, prioritizing profit over the health and well-being of animals, have significantly contributed to the overpopulation crisis. Each year, countless dogs end up in shelters or on the streets, suffering due to neglect.

One actionable solution is to ban public dog breeding and enforce strict licensing laws. Only individuals with proper licenses should be allowed to breed dogs, and these licenses should be revoked if the law is broken or if multiple reports of misconduct arise. Additionally, mandatory spaying of all female puppies before sale would help control the population, ultimately reducing the number of homeless animals.

Moreover, reinstating compulsory dog licensing can ensure that only responsible individuals commit to the lifelong care of a pet. Licensing requirements can create accountability, ensuring dog owners provide the necessary love and care every animal deserves.

Data from organizations like the Humane Society reveal that responsible pet ownership and controlled breeding are crucial to addressing the epidemic of unwanted pets. Let's take inspiration from regions where strict pet ownership laws are improving the lives of countless animals.

With the support of fellow compassionate individuals, together we can urge lawmakers to implement these crucial changes. Sign this petition to call for a ban on unlicensed dog breeding and the reinstatement of mandatory dog licensing to protect our beloved pets and ensure they receive the love and care they deserve.

Did you know that thousands of dogs in the UK suffer from mistreatment every year and approximately 21 unwanted dogs are euthanized DAILY in the UK due to lack of space, but this doesn't cover medical cases.  It's heartbreaking, but there are ways we can make a difference. Reintroducing mandatory dog licenses and banning unlicensed dog breeding could be a GAME CHANGER! By helping to reduce animal abuse and overpopulation in shelters. By requiring all female puppies to be spayed or neutered — unless a registered breeder decides keeps her for future litters (with a limit on how many litters 1 mother should have) for a chance for her to enjoy life instead of being a breeding mule, ensuring every dog has proper documentation of vaccinations, worming, microchip and health checks, we can track better and regulate the breeding process.

This way, overbreeding and irresponsible breeding practices are curtailed, making it harder for unethical breeders to operate. Of course, it won’t eliminate all irresponsible owners, but it would significantly cut down on the number of puppies that end up in kennels or shelters, with limits on how much you can earn per litter people wouldn’t be so quick to breed our baby’s for money purposes only and it promotes responsible pet ownership. We need to debate and push for these kinds of policies to protect our furry friends, be the voice that they don’t have and ensure they’re loved and cared for properly in the future.
