The Issue

Schools across the UK aren’t treating their pupils right.

The majority of secondary schools in the UK aren’t enforcing uniforms correctly. A uniform should make you feel like you belong, and you should feel comfortable while wearing it. However, unfortunately many schools aren’t being fair about it. Schools have strict rules against what you can and cannot wear. Theoretically, this should be okay, but in many cases, they will say you may only wear: smart black trousers or a specific skirt paired with a white shirt and school-branded jumper. However, letting people disobey these rules and wear items such as black jeans and fake eyelashes (which is not “smart” in any way), but then not letting Muslim girls wear longer skirts shouldn’t be allowed. Schools shouldn’t be discriminating against pupils because of their religion. Students should be free to wear what they feel comfortable in/what is culturally appropriate for them. Why should pupils be forced to buy and wear clothes which they don't feel comfortable in. If you're not going to enforce the rules then remove them all together. Either the schools should get stricter on the uniform and enforce the rules correctly or remove  it completely.

Uniforms are not legally required within secondary schools across the UK. Many other European countries do not have uniforms in schools and their students perform a lot better in school compared to the UK. If enough people sign this petition, we can make a difference.
