Ban TikTok influencer Clavicular for promoting harmful practices
The Issue
My teen’s mental health has been significantly impacted by harmful TikTok trends that propagate the destructive notion that looks are all that matter. Influencers like Clavicular have become a disturbing presence for young people, promoting messages that can encourage risky practices such as bone smashing, extreme looksmaxxing, and attempts to obtain substances through unsafe or illicit channels.
Clavicular has publicly promoted extreme approaches to appearance enhancement, including practices such as cutting facial features, bone smashing, extreme looksmaxxing, and the use of substances marketed for cosmetic or physical transformation. His influence goes beyond physical appearance; it can reinforce the damaging message that a young person’s worth, confidence, relationships, and future success are determined primarily by how they look.
To illustrate the gravity of this issue, our family has personally witnessed how deeply these messages can affect a young person. My teen has been exposed to an intense culture of appearance obsession and pressure to pursue an unrealistic ideal of beauty. I am choosing not to share private medical or personal details, but I believe our experience demonstrates why this issue deserves greater attention.
We must scrutinize and address the impact of social media platforms like TikTok, which provide a massive audience for appearance-focused content. Young people are still developing their self-image, confidence, and sense of identity, making them particularly vulnerable to messages that suggest their value depends on changing their physical appearance.
We are calling on TikTok and relevant authorities to take meaningful action to protect young people from harmful appearance-based content and influencers who encourage dangerous behavior. This should include stronger enforcement of existing policies, greater transparency around how this content reaches minors, and more effective monitoring of content that promotes potentially dangerous or medically inappropriate appearance-enhancement practices.
Our children deserve to grow up understanding that their worth extends far beyond their physical appearance. Sign this petition to urge TikTok to take meaningful action against harmful appearance-based content and help create a safer online environment for young people and future generations.
