Ban the Yulin festival and the cat and dog meat trade
The Issue
For many years now, the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China has been a source of horror and condemnation worldwide. Thousands of dogs and cats are killed in the most barbaric and cruel ways imaginable. They are treated like cattle, often beaten or boiled alive, their lives deemed worthless. The thought of the fear and pain these animals endure is heart-wrenching, and their suffering must come to an end.
These animals, beloved companions in many cultures, feel just as we do. They experience fear, pain, and the capacity for joy and love. Yet, they are subjected to horrendous cruelty, all for a festival that is outdated and inhumane. According to Humane Society International, an estimated 10 million dogs and 4 million cats are slaughtered each year across Asia for their meat, with Yulin being the most notorious event where this atrocity takes place.
The time has come for the international community to demand change. We must put pressure on Chinese authorities and international bodies like the United Nations to enforce stricter animal welfare laws that prohibit the killing, mistreatment, and consumption of cats and dogs.
By showcasing cultural pride through compassion and respect for life, China has a tremendous opportunity to lead the world in animal welfare and set a precedent for humane treatment policies everywhere. Countries like Taiwan and Hong Kong have already taken steps by banning the consumption of dogs and cats due to growing public and legislative action against this practice.
With your help, we can push for these same changes in mainland China. Demand an end to the Yulin festival and a complete halt to the cat and dog meat trade. Your signature is a voice for the voiceless, a stand against cruel traditions that have no place in today's world.
Please sign and help us stop this inhumane practice, ensuring a future where all animals are treated with respect and dignity.
