Ban the use of rat poison at Nanyang Technological University

Ban the use of rat poison at Nanyang Technological University
The Issue
The NTU campus cats are an integral part of the lives of many students and staff, with over 6,000 current and former members. NTU cats have even been featured by organisations including Mothership and the Straits Times.
This petition calls for greater support and accountability of NTU for some of her longest-standing residents.
On 16th November 2023, a black cat at NTU passed away. She had fallen sick suddenly a day before, but had otherwise been fine and healthy for at least ten years of staying on campus.
While the cause of her death is currently inconclusive, her symptoms correspond to those experienced as a result of consuming rat poison or other poisonous substances.
This petition urges NTU's facilities management to stop using poisons that may be ingested by, and that may harm, campus cats — if such poisons are being used.
It also petitions the NTU administration to launch an investigation into the cause of death of the black cat in question, due to the importance of the campus cats to the university community.
If it is found that the cat's death was a result of preventable poisoning, we call upon NTU to commit to preventing further such incidents from happening.
Regardless of the cause of death, we mourn her passing and can only hope that she's doing better wherever she may be.
