The Issue

My life, as well as the lives of my closest friends, has been shattered by the reckless use of mobile phones while driving. My husband, once a lively and spirited man, now spends his days in a wheelchair, suffering immeasurably. A tragic accident caused by a distracted driver left him with a lifelong concussion and has robbed him of 90% of his hearing and vision. Several of my friends have also been victims of similar tragedies, all because someone chose the convenience of a phone over the safety of fellow road users.

These stories aren't distant headlines or statistics; they are our painful reality. Every day, families like mine are affected by the careless actions of drivers more focused on their phones than the road. The time for change is now.

We urge lawmakers to take decisive action by making the use of any phone device or holder illegal while a vehicle is moving. This isn't just about imposing restrictions but about saving lives. According to the National Safety Council, cell phone use while driving leads to 1.6 million crashes each year. The U.S. Department of Transportation reports that at any given moment, approximately 660,000 drivers are using electronic devices while driving.

By making the usage of any mobile device a felony if committed while driving, we are issuing a strong message against distracted driving. This could radically change behavior, increase road safety and reducing tragic accidents.

This change is within reach if we stand together. We need your support to urge our legislators to protect everyone on the road. Every signature represents a call for safer roads and a commitment to stop these preventable tragedies.

Please sign this petition and share it with everyone you know. Let's work together to create a future where no one else has to suffer from senseless and preventable road accidents.
