Ban the Use of Convenia in the United States to Save Our Pets

The Issue

My Bichon, a beloved family member, suffered kidney failure after being treated with Convenia injections. Zoetis, the pharmaceutical company behind this antibiotic, continues to distribute Convenia despite numerous reports citing similar fatal consequences in pets. Convenia, a long-acting antibiotic, remains in a pet's body for up to two months per dose. This prolonged duration exposes our furry companions to a heightened risk of severe side effects including, but not limited to, kidney failure, as experienced by my Bichon.

Among these reports are findings presented by VetInfo which state that Convenia's side effects can result in adverse reactions in 1.5% of dogs treated with the drug (VetInfo). Furthermore, based on the same source, approximately 0.3% of these cases are severe reactions which unfortunately, more often than not, lead to death.

This loss isn't just about the cessation of a heartbeat but of losing a loyal companion, a member of the family. Our pets trust us to make the best decisions for their welfare. For too many of us, this trust has been betrayed due to lack of transparency about Convenia's life-threatening side effects.

We urge the US Food and Drug Administration to step in and hold Zoetis accountable for the heartbreak their product has inflicted on numerous families. We call for immediate action to ban Convenia, preventing further unnecessary and agonizing pet deaths in the United States. Please aid in this crucial movement. Sign our petition to safeguard our furry family members from the deadly effects of Convenia.
