As a concerned citizen, I am deeply troubled by the environmental impact of disposable plastic water bottles. According to the Container Recycling Institute, 86% of disposable water bottles used in the United States become garbage or litter. This results in an alarming 38 billion disposable water bottles ending up in U.S. landfills annually.

The production and disposal of these plastic bottles contribute significantly to global warming and other environmental issues. Furthermore, it is estimated that producing these bottles for American consumption requires more than 17 million barrels of oil annually, enough to fuel over a million cars for a year.

We need to take action now and stop contributing to this growing problem. We are calling on lawmakers and businesses alike to ban the sale of water in throwaway plastic bottles. Instead, we should promote reusable containers and public drinking fountains.
