Ban the Sale of Rawhide as a Pet Treat

The Issue

My canine companion, a member of my family, nearly met a disastrous end when they choked on a rawhide treat. Rawhide, commonly sold as a pet treat in many stores, has proven to be a choking hazard that threatens the lives of our beloved pets.

The seriousness of the issue goes unnoticed, largely due to the lack of adequate information available to consumers. According to a study from Tufts University's Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, rawhide treats are among the top ten choking hazards for dogs (Seitz, 2020). Digestion issues, contamination with harmful substances, blockages in the esophagus, and resultant surgeries are also common consequences that a pet might face post-consumption of this seemingly harmless treat.

The availability of rawhide treats in pet stores and supermarkets is a dangerous oversight that needs immediate rectification. As pet owners, and as a society that values animal welfare, we must rally against the sale of rawhide to prevent further pet accidents, or even fatalities.

I urge you to join me in my movement to safeguard our pets from this overlooked danger. Sign our petition to ban the sale of rawhide as a pet treat and protect our pets' health and safety. Your action can bring about significant change and potentially save countless pet lives.
