The Issue

Every time I walk past the seafood section of Lowes Foods Supermarkets, I am confronted with a distressing sight: live lobsters crammed into small tanks, their claws banded, unable to move freely, awaiting an inhumane fate. This cruel display is deeply troubling to me, and I believe it represents a broader issue of animal suffering that we can, and must, address.

Lobsters, like many other creatures, are sentient beings capable of feeling pain and suffering. Numerous studies have shown that these animals have complex nervous systems similar to those of insects and other invertebrates, meaning they experience distress when kept in confined conditions and boiled alive. This is an archaic practice that must end. No animal should have to endure such agony, especially when there are humane alternatives available -- Go VEGAN.

Lowes Foods prides itself on community values and ethical standards. However, the sale of live lobsters starkly contrasts with these principles. By discontinuing this practice, Lowes Foods would join the ranks of forward-thinking retailers who have already taken this important step towards a compassionate and ethical future.

Across the globe, an increasing number of establishments have ceased the sale of live lobsters, recognizing the ethical implications and responding to growing customer concern. For instance, Whole Foods, Safeway and Raley's Supermarkets. In addition, large supermarkets in Switzerland and other European countries have already banned this practice, setting an example we should follow here in the United States.

I urge Lowes Foods to consider the message they are sending to their customers and the impact they have on the well-being of animals. It is time to align their business practices with a modern understanding of animal ethics and go beyond profits to embrace compassion.

Please join me in calling on Lowes Foods to stop the sale of live lobsters and make a commitment to the humane treatment of animals.
Kindly sign this petition to be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Let's make our world a kinder place, one small step at a time.
