My 14 yr old nephew walked into a shop called 'Red Eye' in Brighton. This shop sells 'legal highs'. He gave the substance to my 16yr old nephew, who, after taking it, ended up in hospital, barely conscious and foaming at the mouth! Imagine if this was your son, daughter, niece, nephew or grandchild! It is meant to be illegal to sell these to under 18s, yet time and time again greedy vendors are selling these to under age children. 'legal highs' contain ingredients that have NEVER been tested on humans and in fact it is ILLEGAL to purchase some of the ingredients separately. They label the packages as 'room aromas', and say they are not for human consumption, even though they sell them to people wanting to get high.They come in all forms, and some look like packet of sweets. Some are meant to look like, and mimic cocaine, ecstasy, cannabis and many more 'recreational drugs. Recently the police successfully prosecuted a stall holder in Leeds for selling these to a 16yr old boy, he was given a 12 month conditional discharge... this case was the first of it's kind, but the punishment was not severe enough! Are the Government waiting for a child to die before taking serious action? Wouldn't you all be horrified if shops starting popping up all over the UK selling cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis? Well this is far worse! They have similar effects, with untested ingredients, and are being sold LEGALLY!! Please sign this petition so we can make the Government sit up and listen to what is going on in OUR communities. We must get the law changed immediately and harsher punishments given to the vendors that sell to under 18s.
