Growing up, Bonfire Night was always a favourite time of the year, but I’ve realised the true cost. The loud bangs and bright flashes that once filled me with joy now fill me with a mix of fear and concern—concern for the panicked pets, the frightened wildlife, and many others for various reasons. Fireworks, when left in the hands of the untrained public, have often led to disastrous consequences, including serious injuries, property damage, and environmental harm.

Let us bring these preventable tragedies to an end by restricting the sale of fireworks to licensed professionals and for well-regulated, organized events only. fireworks should only be seen lighting up our skies during major national celebrations, and not proliferated across backyards and residential areas where the risks are not as closely managed.

By implementing this restriction, not only ensure a safer environment for everyone, especially our children and pets, we also significantly reduce the emotional and physical distress that comes with amateur fireworks handling.
