Ban the Sale of Fireworks in Shops and Supermarkets
The Issue
As a pet owner and animal lover, it deeply concerns me to witness the immense stress and fear that fireworks inflict on my beloved cat and dog. It is a sentiment shared amongst an abundance of pet owners, who dread certain times of the year due to the destructive havoc that unregulated firework usage can cause. Fireworks, whilst enjoyable for some, bear heavy consequences. For animals who possess a heightened sense of hearing, the loud blasts of fireworks can be deeply distressing and perhaps physically harmful. This should not continue to be a cost we bear for temporary entertainment.
Furthermore, data from the RSPCA highlights that in the UK alone, approximately 45% of dogs display signs of fear when they hear fireworks. Imagine the absolute disarray in the animal kingdom as a whole, as birds, wildlife, and even farm animals are perturbed by the erratic and deafening sounds of fireworks. RSPCA also reports that their emergency line receives hundreds of calls each year, relating to fireworks, from deeply concerned pet owners.
Therefore, I propose for the sale of fireworks to the public to be discontinued in shops and supermarkets. Allowing the usage of fireworks to focus on structured, organised displays, under controlled circumstances will not only reduce the risk of harm to our pets but also preserve citizen safety by limiting potentially dangerous misuse of fireworks.
For the peace of mind of pet owners, and the wellbeing of all our sentient cohabitants on earth, I urge you to sign this petition. Let's strive for a harmonious coexistence, free from the unnecessary trauma inflicted by fireworks.
