The Issue

Did you know that there are more tigers in Texas alone, than there are tigers left in the wild? It is absolutely unfathomable that there are so many species that are on the brink of extinction, that are being traded around globally.

Not just that. There are also those who have survived and thrived and have become invasive species, and are decimating the local ecology. Florida is a key example. In the everglades, pythons have become a real nuisance, and have gotten to the point where they are even killing and eating alligators.

Then there are the other species, like the snakehead fish, which has absolutely decimated the local wildlife, and have spread far and wide across the US. Iguanas have also become prolific. But the most dangerous one in Florida is the Nile Crocodile. These are the largest of the Crocodilian family, and are hyper aggressive and dangerous. They can grow to 24 feet, and can easily take down large prey like wildebeest.

You can say that this is concentrating mostly on America, but the trade of exotic animals isn't just there, it's all over the world. The worst offenders are definitely America, where there doesn't seem to be any proper legislation with regards to exotic animals, but Russia, Saudi Arabia and some middle-eastern countries, as well as many Asian and African countries are equally complicit.

However, we cannot deny that the US is the current superpower, and when they make changes, the rest of the world tends to follow the trend. We've seen that time and time again. If they put a stop to it, many others will follow suit.

Large corporations that own theme parks that capture dolphins and Orcas for amusement should not be in existence. They are sentient beings. There has been some progress in that, but too little, too late.

It's the time old adage. When the buying stops, the killing can too.

This is a call to arms to put in laws that stop people from buying or killing animals for fun, or for status. Sadly, a large amount of people who buy exotic species do not care for their animals once they get past their "cute" stage, often abandoning them and/or neglecting them. This has to stop.

Case in point, many Chimpanzee owners love their cute, cuddly baby Chimps, but once they get older and more aggressive, they are subject to abuse or neglect.

Wild animals have every right to live their lives in their own habitat without fear of being held hostage. It's 2023, and I sincerely hope that we can put international laws in place to stop the destruction that we are doing to Mother Nature, and instead, focus on how to make the world a better place. For animals, as well as for humankind.

Think to yourself. What world do you want your children to inherit?

The time is now. Educate yourself about these matters, because there are many layers to this story. Then, call your local politician. Write letters. Be active. Voice your concerns. Sign this petition and share it so that it gets noticed. America has a lot to answer for when it comes to the sale of exotic animals, and are the number one villain in this tragic story.

Things won't improve at all, unless we do something NOW. Ban the importation of exotic animals to the USA and hopefully, other countries will follow suit.

Wild animals deserve to live their lives in the wild.

Thank you for your time
