The issue

Hi! my name is Jun and i"am a cat lover and a proud owner of two rescued cats. I was shocked and horrified to learn that cat fur is still being sold in some markets and online platforms in the Philippines. This is not only cruel and inhumane, but also illegal under the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.

According to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), cat fur is often obtained from stray cats or stolen pets who are skinned alive or electrocuted. The fur is then dyed and labeled as synthetic or rabbit fur to deceive consumers. Cat fur products include hats, gloves, scarves, toys, and even keychains.

This barbaric practice must stop. It is a violation of animal rights and a threat to public health, as cat fur can carry diseases such as rabies, anthrax, and toxoplasmosis. It also contributes to the decline of the cat population, which plays an important role in controlling rodents and pests.

We urge the Philippine government to ban the sale of cat fur and to enforce the existing laws against animal cruelty. We also call on the public to boycott cat fur products and to report any suspicious sellers to the authorities. Together, we can end this atrocity and save the lives of countless cats...
