Ban the Sale and Use of Fireworks in Richards Bay

The Issue

I am a resident of Richards Bay, profoundly touched by the painful impact fireworks have on our domestic animals and wildlife. With every occasion that sees the burst of these bright explosives, numerous animals suffer in silence, traumatized by the loud bangs and sudden flashes of light. It's about time we addressed this pressing issue.

Fireworks, although beautiful and festive, carry a dark side. Many scientific studies have proven them to be harmful to animals. Higher frequencies not perceived by humans can be painful or discomforting to animals and could lead to extreme stress/fear (Source: Journal of Applied Animal Welfare Science), inducing panic attacks or causing wildlife to forcibly flee their habitats.

Furthermore, fireworks are not just harmful to our animals but to our environment as well. The temporary beauty of a firework display pales in comparison to the prolonged damage it does to our air quality. Pollutants released from fireworks drastically decrease air quality, causing human health concerns and contribution to overall global pollution (Source: National Geographic).

Therefore, I plead with the city council of Richards Bay, local law enforcement, and concerned citizens to enact a complete ban on the sale and use of fireworks within our beloved city. Together, we can make Richards Bay safer for our pets and wildlife, and opt for more environmentally friendly celebration methods. Please, sign this petition and help protect those who do not have a voice.
