This Spring multiple places have turned from a vibrant sanctuary to a charred landscape overnight. A single disposable BBQ, left unattended, ignited fires that swept across a wide area, destroying nesting grounds and harming birds and wildlife. Tragically, this scene is not uncommon.

Every year, disposable grills are responsible for numerous wildfires that devastate natural habitats, particularly during the dry months leading into summer. Portable and often not disposed of correctly, these grills become hazards waiting to happen. In the UK alone, hundreds of fires are attributed to disposable BBQs each year, causing immeasurable harm to the environment and endangering both human and animal lives.

The environmental cost is staggering, with fires threatening rare plant species and leading to the deaths of countless birds and small mammals. Beyond the fire risk, the production and disposal of these grills leave a significant carbon footprint, contributing to pollution and climate change.

To combat this urgent issue, we must ban the sale and use of disposable grills.  We owe it to our natural spaces and future generations to protect what's left and restore what’s been lost.
