Ban the Sale and Usage of Fireworks in ARIZONA

Ban the Sale and Usage of Fireworks in ARIZONA
The Issue
Many residents of South Phoenix are experiencing unbearable conditions due to the effects of fireworks. The air quality has become hazardous, causing health issues to the many people that reside here. A number of us suffer from asthma and other respiratory diseases, and the poor air quality is worsening our conditions. Furthermore, the loud noises and bright lights from the fireworks are causing acute stress to those with PTSD, developmental issues, and to our pets. Some pets have even died due to the anxiety caused by these explosions in the sky.
Fireworks are often seen as a symbol of celebration and joy, but for us, they only bring suffering. The American Pyrotechnics Association reports that consumer fireworks usage in the US, including Arizona, has gruesomely increased from 102 million pounds in 2000 to over 258 million pounds in 2018, indicating the increasing risk to air quality and citizen health ("American Fireworks Use"). Furthermore, a study found that fireworks contribute to 42% of metal particles found in air pollutants, clearly evidencing the link between fireworks and worsened air quality (Environmental Science & Technology Journal, 2015).
We must take action. Fireworks may bring momentary jubilation to some, but the long-term costs on health and well-being of the residents of South Phoenix are far too great a price to pay. We call upon local authorities to ban the sale and usage of fireworks in South Phoenix. Please lend your voice to our cause. Sign the petition. It's time to take a stand against the hazardous effects of fireworks.
